About the Image(s)

Continuing my flower theme. I am exploring implied movement in static forms. I extracted this river surfer and added a blur to sell the unnatural sport of flower surfing. I intentionally chose to have the surfer transition between the green and orange tones to add more contrast to his blue wetsuit

Hi Brad,
I think your choice with the surfer is a good one. He does stand out as the eye is drawn to his white surfboard. The choice of flower is also good as you can imagine the surfer leaping from the bottom petal. Maybe add some of the water in the bottom petal as it would tie the surfer to the flower.

Nadia, Thanks, an excellent idea.   Posted: 06/23/2022 17:17:56

I like the surfer, very cool.

I like the idea suggested to add a little water to the petal.

How did you do the blur? And was it a smart filter to get it just so?

I would try toning down the upper right corner, there is a lot of bright to pull one's eyes away.   Posted: 06/23/2022 16:42:04

Lisa, I do recall trying a few blur techniques and do believe the smart blur was the most natural looking. Thanks for the suggestion to reduce the brightness in the upper right. As I look at it now I think I could tone down some of the highlights on the flowers as well   Posted: 06/23/2022 17:20:06

Brad, nifty continuation of your flower theme! I personally like the blur effect of the petals. My personal artistic preference, but no better than yours, is to have the surfer coming in from the lower left.

Nice image!

Now, after reading the other comments, I think I missed your point and the others caught it. Nice work.   Posted: 06/23/2022 17:57:37

Henry, The blur effect is just the bokeh from using a close up lens on the flower image.   Posted: 06/24/2022 13:02:40

Hi Brad,
To me, this seems to fit a skateboarder instead of a surfer. As a surfer, I like Nadia's suggestion of adding water. I'd crop it down a bit and get rid of the left bud, as I feel it doesn't add that much. Cool idea.   Posted: 06/24/2022 12:59:25

Tom, Yes, that would work too but I don't have any skateboarder images that work. What appealed to me in this case was the contrast of the blue black wetsuit, something a skateboarder would not wear. In my flower series I've abandoned traditional rules as they free me to play with form, shape and implied stories.   Posted: 06/24/2022 13:04:20
