About the Image(s)

When I took this flower picture I was struck by how much the flowers center looked like bananas. I played around with a number of images of monkeys eating bananas and settled on this one. I worked on positioning, blurring parts of the monkey and coloring the flower selectively to make it seem like the monkey took a banana from the center of the flower. The flower was manipulated in Topaz to create the muted effect.

Hi Brad,
It does look like a banana flower. The colors of the monkey and the flower really blend together well. What did you do in Topaz exactly to get this effect. It works well.   Posted: 10/04/2021 15:59:57

Tom, Thanks. I can't recall which preset topaz filter I applied. I tried 5 or 6 and that one gave me a look that I liked. After I apply a filter it often goes thru a bunch of iterations in photoshop afterwards which are often hard to remember. Not sure other people's workflows. I often put each layer thru a series of layer masks to adjust brightness/contrast/hue/saturation/color balance etc.   Posted: 10/04/2021 21:09:50

Brad, I really, really like this. I like the Topaz effect you have on the flower, I like the monkey looking directly at the viewer, and I like the size of the flower. Now, personal preference for me but in no criticism of what you envisioned, I would make the monkey slightly larger to be a larger center of interest but not so large that it would detract from the flower.

This is really fine creative work!   Posted: 10/12/2021 12:52:19

Henry, Thank you for your comments. I always play around with size when pasting an animal on a flower! Actually I play with every parameter, color, hue, saturation, contrast, opacity etc. I end up choosing the one that looks best to me. I have learned over time we each have different preferences. I appreciate the feedback as I find it helpful hearing how my images affect others.   Posted: 10/12/2021 15:47:23
