About the Image(s)

This image is in response to a Photoshop Challenge by a photographer friend of mine who took the same class I did online. (Ella Carlson https://ellaputneycarlson.com/gallery-aliens) We learned how to make "aliens" in Photoshop. We had so much fun that I've amassed at least 6 different aliens so far and it's very addictive.
This started with the photo of the orchid and was built entirely in Photoshop. It's a very long process so I won't go into it in detail here. But briefly, it starts with a selection, copying the image and mirroring it. Then cutting out shapes for the eyes in the base image. Next is building the eyes (iris, pupil, eyeball, catch lights) with the marquee tool and selections made from the original photo. Then I added shade and light for dimension with the dodge and burn tools. I used drop shadows and bevel and emboss for more toning and shading.

Kathy, I love this one. It reminds me of a challenge I had decades ago from my Nephew who asked me to turn him into an alien. That challenge brought great joy to him and me alike as it made me realize how powerful an imagination pared with photoshop can be. This is skillfully rendered and beautiful.   Posted: 06/09/2021 22:01:30
