About the Image(s)
Abandoned outpost. I had this idea for a while. Photographed the shop in a small rural village in
Tasmania. The background is from on an outing with my camera club and the tree from the farm
that’s close by. The challenge with this image was to create the atmosphere, I thought that a sepia
tone would suit the notion of ‘abandonment’ well.

I like this picture very much, the sepia tone, dead tree and wild grass on the ground all create the atmosphere of this abandoned outpost. The post-production skills are also very good.   Posted: 03/03/2025 19:31:51
Hi Stanley, thanks for visiting our group and I appreciate your kind and thoughtful comments.   Posted: 03/05/2025 03:47:36
Nadia, You've created another striking and powerful image which I like very much. The muted tones and grainy handling create such a strong mood. The birds enhance the overall effect nicely. I have mixed feelings about the words on the roof. I'm not 100% sure they enhance the photo, although I go back and forth on this.   Posted: 03/05/2025 11:47:36
Hi Brad, thanks for your feedback. The words are on the original image and are in old lettering so I thought it would be worthwhile keeping it there to be in line with the theme. I did put an image that I took of rusting metal to cover some of it. It mainly promotes newspapers that have been in existence since the mid 1800s in Tasmania.   Posted: 03/08/2025 03:15:01
Nadia - The building, tree and pumps look like they are in the original position. This is reminiscent of many a back-country scene. But for me, what makes this really special is your background and the treatment of the ground. The sky looks like an ancient spackeled wall that has seen many storms. And the foreground soil is ancient with wear. The final addition of the birds really makes this sparkle. Wonderful imagination!   Posted: 03/05/2025 12:40:37

Hi Nadia,
Nice. This has a wonderful mood. Well done. One detail is that the old tire tracks don't make sense heading into the middle of the store. Just a nit.   Posted: 03/06/2025 09:34:20

Hi Tom, thanks for your feedback much appreciated. I do see what you mean about the old gravel road, but to be honest I had a hard time to move it horizontally. I think I might put more grass on it to cover most of it up. I had the idea of having an old road that's marginally visible.
