About the Image(s)
I took this image of a prairie dog at the Sonora Desert Museum in Arizona, USA, last year. He was right in front of me but behind plexiglass. I thought they were so cute! His fur and the surrounding dirt are all the same color, so I tried to darken the dirt and lighten the prairie dog, and gave it a strong vignette.

Hey Janice. I went to a prairie dog exhibit somewhere and they had a little bubble in the middle of the exhibit and you could go through a tunnel and pop you head up and be in the middle of the group of prairie dogs. It was fun. I like your depth of field, but the little doggie wants to blend in to the background. I opened it in Adobe Camera Raw and added some contrast and then my big three: Texture, Clarity, and Dehaze. I did not put it through my topaz denoise plugin because the doggie was very sharp. I think there is now a little more seperation between the two. Nice job. I also clonned out some of the black blurred items. Just subtle little things. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 11/16/2023 16:26:19
Hi Don, thank you. I'd love to visit that prairie dog place where you can pop your head up. Hahaha! I took your suggestions and made those adjustments. Thanks again!

Yes nice and sharp, well exposed. The animal is well positioned in the frame with enough context to see what they get up to. Thanks for showing us your photography,   Posted: 11/17/2023 09:43:13

Hi Janice, You've shown me something that I have not seen before. I'd like to see a little more of him side on so that I can understand what his ears are like. I googled him to see what I was missing. This is a very sharp image, but as you stated, the colour of him does blend into the background.   Posted: 11/18/2023 21:04:43
Hi Julie,
I'm not very familiar with prairie dogs, either, and only saw them at the zoo and once in the wild on a trip out West. Their ears are very tiny and kind of flattened against their heads. I had no idea until I saw them out West that they're so destructive! They live in huge groups of maybe 100s and digs 100s of holes in farmland. But they're so cute!
Thanks,

Janice, I think you did an excellent job with your prairie dog. Don, a master of post processing, added a slight touch but I think your version is perfect.   Posted: 11/19/2023 18:11:33
Hi Henry,
Thank you so much! I made very small changes which Don had suggested, but not too much since you and others liked it as it was originally.
Thanks,

Welcome Janice. I love the prairie dog's fur with all the texture. I think you did a great job of bring him out. What I love about this capture is how well he blends in. Nature's camouflage is fascinating to me.   Posted: 11/20/2023 12:55:25
Hi Catherine,
Thank you. I made a few adjustments to set the prairie dog apart from the background but also not to change the color so much so you can still see the camouflage. Thanks for your comments!
