About the Image(s)

As you enjoyed last month's dinosaur still life, I decided to show you another attempt at still life this month.
Our Grandson left some cookies behind after a visit, so I thought that I would put them to good use. Tell me what you would have done differently as I'm not sure that this image works the way I envisaged it.

Nice Job. You seem to have a nack at this. The only thing I can't believe is that your grandson left three cookies behind. That would never have happened when I was his age.   Posted: 12/02/2021 19:54:07

Thanks Don, The rest of the cookie packet was gone though and his is only 5 years old!   Posted: 12/29/2021 16:39:11

Julie, I think this works to get across the idea of what goes into making cookies and what the Christmas result is. I also know that if I had been working on this still life in my garage, the mice that occasionally slip in would have had a great Christmas dinner.

Great still life!   Posted: 12/12/2021 15:26:43

Thanks Henry, I set this up on my kitchen bench, so hopefully no mice were involved!   Posted: 12/29/2021 16:40:18

This has really nice detail through out and I like how you warmed up the spoon and gingerbread people. The smile on these cookies really makes this a fun photo!   Posted: 12/13/2021 07:49:45

Thanks Catherine, Yes, the original was a bit blue. I wanted the spoon and men to stand out a bit in the image.   Posted: 12/29/2021 16:42:02

This is a fun picture and it works well, I don't have anything I would want to change. A picture which could be used on a card. Good job.   Posted: 12/16/2021 12:20:32

Thanks Andrew, I had not thought of the card idea.   Posted: 12/29/2021 16:52:35

This is so much fun. Nice job! Compositionally, how about moving the bowl of the spoon a bit further away from its neighbor cookie, about as far as the handle is from the butter. AND putting a little pyramid of the colored sprinkles somewhere, maybe even in the bowl of the spoon. Just playing with ideas.   Posted: 12/19/2021 11:28:05

Thanks for your ideas Stephen. I had not thought of the sprinkles in the spoon. What a great idea.   Posted: 12/29/2021 16:54:20

The square crop and what you did to brighten the colors work perfectly.
I agree with Stephen about maybe moving the spoon away a little.
I find myself staring at the two cookies perched on thebutter and I wonder if they are going to slip off. I find that thought distracting. So maybe, if you do another one, pose the gingerbreak men a little less precariously. I like the one leaning on the egg.
I agree with everyone else. How could anyone NOT eat those cookies?
This is great fun! Keep doing these!   Posted: 12/22/2021 20:11:04

Thanks Alison, you and Stephen have a good point about the spoon. Now that I look at the image, I agree that it is left sided heavy and the spoon does need to shift a bit. I will reconsider the position of the little men.   Posted: 12/29/2021 16:59:34

Hey Julie, got a book called "Miniature Life" for Christmas, and I think if you go to the website: Kottke.org, you might get some interesting ideas if you want to continue with your VegitableScapes. I think everyone might get a kick out of this site.   Posted: 12/26/2021 10:15:01

What a great set of fotos on Kottke.org! The one with the sign Hope 1/2 mile was used on a recent cover of the Poets and Writers Magazine!   Posted: 12/29/2021 04:57:29

Thanks for the website Don. I'm on limited internet for the next week or so, but will have a good look around Kottke.com when we get home.   Posted: 12/29/2021 17:03:44
