July 2021 - Kisses

About the Image(s)

This month I thought I'd give a smile to everyone.

Last winter we were treated to elk in our neighborhood. At times we had as many as 9 wandering between the houses. This particular day, we had 5. One actually jumped the fence and was in our yard. But not this one. He and our pup, Zip were curious about each other. I was lucky enough to snap them "kissing". The only camera I had at that moment was my phone. I hope it at least brings a smile to your day. I cropped it, but decided all the clutter was too noticeable, so kept it as is. What are your thoughts....crop or not. I know it's not an award winner, just a smile.

Stay well!

Hi Jamie, mission accomplished! Yes, it did bring a smile to my face. Zip looks a little wary of the monster being so close. We live 9 miles from the CBD and sometimes get koalas in our street. Those cute little things make the weirdest low, grumbling sound! Thanks.   Posted: 07/10/2021 20:13:41

I'd love to see a koala in the wild! I never knew about the sounds they make! Thanks for sharing!!!   Posted: 07/12/2021 14:29:23

Grand looking dog. I think this is a super picture and worthwhile sending in to your the local newspaper - it would make quite a few people smile. It's fine "as is".   Posted: 07/12/2021 13:57:17

We are lucky to have them in our neighborhood. Not everyone likes what they leave and do to the trees, but they were here long before we were. I love to watch from the porch or inside.   Posted: 07/16/2021 11:10:42

Zip, I think you are one brave dog to trade kisses with an elk even if there is a fence between you!

This is human or should we say animal interest. I don't know what you cropped from as the orignal image isn't posted but I think this is really good for spur of the moment. Keep it the way it is.   Posted: 07/13/2021 19:42:59

Thanks Henry. I cropped, then decided to return the image to it's original size. The cropping just didn't feel right with the subject. Zip was brave. This was such a fleeting moment!   Posted: 07/16/2021 11:12:47

Super sweet. It is like street photography or photojournalism. It is great the way it is. This is full of expression of wonder and acceptance.   Posted: 07/14/2021 07:04:07

I agree with Catherine - this is street photography!Just happens to involve animals.
Where do you live? Where did you see an elk like this? Incredible!   Posted: 07/18/2021 16:18:13

Thank you Allison!
We live in Loveland, North of Denver. We are near the foothills. In the fall the elk come down to this area. We don't have this, but in a neighborhood near us, there have been over 100 eating. We usually have 3 to 9 hanging around the neighborhood. They do come on our grass, jump our fence, and even bed down. It's amazing to have such entertainment and that we can watch from our windows. I opened my front door once to find one on my porch. We both were startled! T   Posted: 07/18/2021 16:26:42

That's amazing! The wildest thing I've seen around here are a flock of wild turkey crossing our yard.... we seem to be on their regular route because that's happened a couple times.   Posted: 07/18/2021 16:42:53
