“BlowOff” by Jerry Hug, APSA

October 2021 - “BlowOff”

About the Image(s)

Shot this image up close at the Illinois Railway Museum. This is the largest railway museum in the USA. I really got up close to get the blowing off of steam.
This is down to avoid over loading the pressure of the equipment. This image is all about stream. I shot this on my iPhone 12 Pro Max in RAW and did all the editing in Mobile apps. I used the computer to size in Photoshop and tweak the image in Adobe Camera RAW. Jerry

Really did catch the steam which creates a strong part of the story.

I think the crop is too close on the top and the left. Not sure if you could have included all the steam with out that close crop but it looks like it was unintentional.   Posted: 10/01/2021 16:28:22

Interesting image Jerry. But I think it is too tight and the white steam on the sides causing a bleed off. I am not sure about the aspect, though it seems intentional. Definitely a subject to explore.   Posted: 10/02/2021 11:57:28

You both are correct. It was really too tight. it was starting to move and it became a grab shot to say the least.   Posted: 10/03/2021 09:48:56

Yes this is a bit tight and I would have love the front of the engine, but you have captured the steam and poser of the engine and how complicated this engine is. I do look at this and think this is a touch grey. I don't see a true black and that engine is black.
Must have been great to get up that close.   Posted: 10/15/2021 07:06:24

Must be an interesting and passionate place to be so close, to feel the atmosphere.
I also missed the top of the locomotive.
Il like the subject (the steam) but I am quite disturbed by the left part (beginning) of the steam. It seems to be not natural.   Posted: 10/25/2021 07:49:13
