About the Image(s)

We took our grandkids to ride the ski lift at Snoqualmie Pass here in Washington about a month ago, and I took this image from the top of the ride up. It was a beautiful summer day with a lot of clouds and mist moving about in different directions.

I took this image with my Nikon D750 and the 28-300 zoom set at 62 mm, 1/500, f 7.1, ISO 100.

I opened the NEF file in Camera Raw and then in Photoshop, I used SEP 3 to convert to B&W. I like to look at the different pre-sets, but then I played around with the contrast, brightness, and structure to get what I wanted.

Larry, this is really a very strong image. Outstanding result. This is a keeper and needs to be printed and framed. Jerry   Posted: 09/13/2021 11:11:23

You have captured a dramatic scene with all those clouds and that one main mountain top peaking through them. The tree tops just holding the base. So it works sort of.
The problem I have, the main peak is so dominate it is make the right side of the image a wasted space. So I think there may be two other image in here that also work as well if not better. See my crops.   Posted: 09/15/2021 06:44:21

Thanks, Paul. I was more interested in the clouds, but if the mountain is the subject, then your square version is better. The vertical image - alternative 2 - makes the subject the mountain even more than your first image does. I like all 3 versions!   Posted: 09/24/2021 11:22:08

Clouds in a sky usually give a nice image. The rule is respected in this case.
The structure of them also bring a lot.
For the image balance, I partially agree with Paul. the square format is beautiful, but I don't think this is necessary. Indeed, the density of the clouds (above right) gives a well balanced image.

Having worked out of Bellingham for a couple of years I visited this region often and it is absolutely beautiful. You've captured the frequent mountain top clouds perfectly. I'm going with Paul's first crop though. Having that central cloud split the two peaks ads a bit of mystery to it.   Posted: 09/24/2021 15:28:43
