About the Image(s)

This is my first attempt to create a picture with a Sky replacement.
After following few classes from Photoshop Virtual Summit with excellent instructors , I was inspired and decided to play with sky replacement in Photoshop. I really enjoyed the process. I had an assignment last July to take pictures of a newly renovated wooden boat under sail. Unfortunately the weather was overcast and the wind very poor. As a result, my pictures didn’t turn out so well.
Here is an example of how we could, may be, rescue a picture . The picture of the new sky was shot by myself on a previous day in the same environment ( not exactly this location) . Your feedback is always welcome. Hope you’ ll like the result. Settings : Canon EOS Mark II Canon Lens 100-400mm ISO 800 F/ 11 1/ 2000sec @ 100mm

Good Job Regine. Very nice attempt, you did an egregious job replacing the sky to your image. The image looks pretty sharp. If anything I could do I would place the vessel a bit off center to the right. More close to third right side, and give some more spritz to the colors.   Posted: 01/04/2022 10:49:15

Regine, I think you did a bang-up job selecting an appropriate sky for your image. To my eye you nailed the exposure. It looks to me like your focus and depth of field is carried clear through to the clouds. Personally, I like your color because, to me, a cloudy sky will normally produce less vibrant colors. I agree with Gabriele, if you crop down from upper right and give the mast as much room as the keel, you can offset the main subject more to the right and give the image a better sense of motion. Very nice peaceful image that would fit nicely on the wall of a seafood restaurant or cottage.   Posted: 01/05/2022 08:57:41

I think this is well captured story telling image of a boat returning to port. I agree that a more asymmetrical crop would impart more sense of motion. I would like to see some more contrast as well. I used a top and bottom vignette, added some more to canvas to one side and the bottom, brightened the middle and flipped it horizontally. I think the flip works.   Posted: 01/06/2022 22:31:00

Thanks you all for your feedback, comments and suggestions. It is very helpful and I agree with all the suggestions. the flip works perfectly .. reading from left to right. I really have to try it more often. Thanks   Posted: 01/08/2022 17:09:33

Regine, I am impressed with your sky replacement. You did a great job. I love the photo. I would just trim the right side to move it a little more out of the middle. NICE!
