May 2022 - Seattle Skyline

About the Image(s)

The picture was taken last month from Alki Beach in Seattle after sunset. The clouds that night was dramatic. I waited for blue hour and city lights coming out to take the picture. In order to smooth out the water I used long exposure, but I forgot to bring my remote control so I can only slow it down to 30 secs. The camera settings are Nikon D850, Nikon 18-35mm, iso-64, f/10, 30 secs, 26mm. The photo is a little bit underexposed so I increased the brightness, added more saturation to the city lights, and increased the contrast a bit.

Hi Peter: You have gorgeous color in the city buildings and water. It shows a great use of reflection. My one comment would be to take the city off the midline by cropping out all of the blue water in the foreground. If you hold up a piece of paper over the blue, I think you will notice a big difference.

Peter, this is one of he best images I've seen of Seattle! Just Magic. I agree with Lee Ann that cropping the dark blue off the bottom adds substantial impact. Great shot!   Posted: 05/08/2022 16:20:05

Beautiful picture, capturing great colors.
Our daughter lives in West Seattle, and we have been to Alki beach with her several times when we have visited from the east coast. You view shows Beacon Hill on the extreme right, where our son lives.
There is a series of dots of light in the sky on the left side, over the University district. No doubt it is the track of an aircraft with its blinking landing lights during your 30-second exposure.   Posted: 05/09/2022 12:24:18

Beautiful. I can't thin of much to add. I'd have to agree with cropping off the bottom.   Posted: 05/15/2022 23:39:35

Wonderful image. I really like the colors throughout from the clouds to the reflections below. I agree with the others that cutting off the water just below the reflections would make this an even stronger image.   Posted: 05/19/2022 12:51:05

Peter, very nice image. The clouds and reflection in the water are beautiful. I would agree with cropping, perhaps at the reflection line.   Posted: 05/22/2022 12:08:37
