Sunset at Grand Teton National Park by Peter Cheung

November 2021 - Sunset at Grand Teton National Park

About the Image(s)

The picture was taken at Oxbow Bend when we visited Grand Teton National Park in June. It was a partly cloudy day during sunset. We expected red cloud but it didn't happen; however, the sunset was still gorgeous. A lot of photographers already lined up to wait for the sunset when we arrived there so it took me several mins to find a better spot. The camera settings are Nikon D850, Nikon 18-35mm, ISO-64, f/13, 1/200 sec, 38mm. In post-processing, I need to brighten up the shadow and increase the color temperature of the image because I want to make the image looks warm and golden. I also removed some of the people standing in front of the river by photoshop, and only left one person there. I feel that leaving one person in front of the image makes the photo more interesting.

What a true representation of golden hour. The sky, reflections, foreground and yes one person, all contribute to make it a beautiful shot of golden hour.   Posted: 11/09/2021 04:18:01

Love the color and composition. A minor suggestion would be to crop out the upper clouds as my eye was pulled away from the incredible oxbow and forest in the mid-ground. A large version would look great on my living room wall!   Posted: 11/16/2021 13:06:50

I agree the one person in the image does add some intrigue. The color contrasts are beautiful and the mountains almost look like a silhouette.   Posted: 11/16/2021 19:56:32

What a lovely image Peter. I really like all the color tones and detail. You made a good decision to take out all but the one person. It gives a scale of grandeur to the whole scene.   Posted: 11/19/2021 10:42:37

What a gorgeous landscape, Peter! It has everything: the oxbow curve; the rich sunset and reflection; the muted, distant mountain; and a single person for scale. You did a good job of cloning out the others if they were among the tall grasses.   Posted: 11/20/2021 19:47:09
