Northampton Bridge by Bob Scott

October 2021 - Northampton Bridge

About the Image(s)

This former trolley bridge over the Connecticut River in Northampton, Mass., is now used by joggers and bikers. This was taken while I was lying down on a dock in the river and cropped in to get rid of troublesome vegetation. I used Photoshop’s set sky to get rid of the grey sky we had that morning. This was taken with 8:30 or s9 in the morning with a Tamron 15 to 35 mm at 17 mm (which is where it is stuck) at F/3.5 at 1/640 sec. at ISO 80 on a Nikon Z7.

I like the bright, clear colors, the clouds, and the slightly distorted, ribbony appearance of the mirrored image. The sharp pier, almost centered, creates two windows with two, quite different scenes, but the diagonal line leading behind the pier unites them. Well seen.   Posted: 10/10/2021 18:09:14

I like the sharp bridge and the great reflection in this image. Good color. Since you redid the sky, I would like to see a few light clouds in the sky under the bridge. The sun seems to be coming in from right to left as the left side is much brighter. Another thought would be to balance the colors of the trees a bit.   Posted: 10/15/2021 18:15:27

Bob, I really like the dialectic you captured...the linear symmetry (rational mind) of humankind's construction versus the organic non-symmetry of nature. And technically excellent and pleasing to the eye to boot!   Posted: 10/16/2021 16:43:05

A nicely captured simple image where reflections make it look beautiful.   Posted: 10/18/2021 02:56:48
