Rise of the Snow Geese by Ham Hayes

September 2021 - Rise of the Snow Geese

About the Image(s)

Taken at dawn at Fir Island, Washington in late November 2019. The area is famous for very large flocks of migrating Snow Geese and Swans among other species. This was the last field trip of our local photo club prior to the pandemic. Looking back the image is almost prophetic because of its colors and subject matter, the departure of such magnificent birds.

I like the idea and the sky color is very good. I took the liberty to crop into a pano and get rid of some of the dead space in the front as well as bringing the subject more into focus. What do you think?   Posted: 09/18/2021 14:33:15

Yes, that works well. Good suggestion for me to keep in mind as I'm not always thinking in pano mode. That's a new horizon for me :-) :-)   Posted: 09/18/2021 15:17:32

I like the colors and contrasts as they create a nice layered effect.   Posted: 09/21/2021 20:22:43

Lovely, Ham. I, too, like the layers and agree with Howard that cropping out the bright foreground brings more attention to the geese.   Posted: 09/23/2021 01:05:56
