November 2021 - Waterfall

About the Image(s)

Leica Q2, F11, 1/2 second, ISO 50

I attended a photography festival in September. I didn't think about any serious shooting, so I just took a portable camera. After the exhibition, I made an unplanned sightseeing to a nearby scenic spot. To my surprise, there are some nice waterfall. Thanks to the forrest and low light, I can get the picture without tripod and ND filter.

This is a very charming waterfall and your composition certainly makes the falls the center of the image. I like how your shutter speed has retained detail in the flow of the falls. For me, the troublesome aspect is the blue tones of the water. I feel that working with the white balance you could return the water to its natural color of white. Getting blue tones like this generally comes from being in shade. I would also prefer a scene that shows just a bit more of the environment. Maybe backing up a step or two and gaining just a bit more of the run off (which would add a leading line) may change the feel of the image.   Posted: 11/07/2021 16:27:53

Hi Larry, thank you very much for the suggestion of blue tones of water and environment. I really didn't realize the water tones. You got such an acute insight.   Posted: 11/17/2021 07:14:37

Nice work in getting sharpness throughout the image. I like your choice of shutter speed. I agree with Larry that overall, the waterfall feels a little crowded so slightly wider composition may have worked better. You may have been trying to avoid a bright area above the fall. You could change the blue of the water by using the hue sliders. The other colors in your image look good to my eye.   Posted: 11/07/2021 17:00:49

Very nice image of a waterfall. I believe, Larry and Michael have said what changes might improve the photo. I especially like the color of the leaves on the boulder on the right, and the detail of hte boulder of the left.   Posted: 11/07/2021 17:33:23

I like how you captured the motion of the waterfall. For me the water is too blue and as stated by the others I would also like to see a bit more of the surrounding area but sometimes it's not possible. Overall good job.   Posted: 11/08/2021 08:12:03
