About the Image(s)

These pines are very plentiful in the Spring Mountains near Las Vegas, NV (as well as many other locations). Like these main actors, many are rather stately, and their bark smells good, too. Their needles do not seem to reflect IR as strongly as deciduous tree leaves. Taken with a Panasonic DMC-GX8 camera, converted to IR using a Deep BW 830 nm filter. The lens was a Lumix G Vario 12-60mm at 14mm, 1/100 sec, f/7.1, ISO 400. Processed with Nik Silver Efex Pro.

Congratulations on a great IR image Chuck. The pale foliage of the deciduous trees highlight the IR effect, as does the sky. Compositionally a very strong image.   Posted: 08/08/2022 03:54:20

Very nice image, I like the details in the trees and enjoy the dark sky.   Posted: 08/11/2022 11:28:16

I agree with the above comments. I also like that wispy cloud, and might brighten it a bit more.   Posted: 08/12/2022 18:53:36

I can easily see why you took this image. The idea is good but there is too much in the scene which destroys the beauty of the central subject. But I can't suggest any way to avoid all the surrounding trees. A different approach that might work is to aim the camera up and not try to capture the entire trees but just the tops where there aren't other trees to infringe on the scene. In this scene the tops would stand out against the black sky.   Posted: 08/14/2022 16:20:29

A lovely scene and I think you have some nice detail in the pines. My suggestion would be clean up the barren limbs on the right and the orphaned bits on the right. I think I might crop some of the bottom to put more focus on the pines.   Posted: 08/18/2022 12:44:55
