About the Image(s)

This was taken several years ago on one of my trips to northern California. It is an area that my wife and I have enjoyed for many years. I liked this old barn against the trees and wondered what infrared would do to it. The exposure was bracketed and i used 1/1250 at f8 with the zoom set at 38mm. I do not have a record of how it was processed as it was done several years ago but obviously I thought a sepia tone would be suitable for this old relic.

Hi Stuart, I love old barns, their texture and wood. They are becoming "historic" as farmers now use aluminum instead of wood. I think there is a strong vignette on your photo, and although that might add to the old-fashioned look, it also darkens it, expecially with the sepia tone added. I would try feathering the vignette back more, and would prefer a brighter overall photo that shows off the wood grain. The little cloud in the upper left looks kinda lonely there...I would give it some friends or remove it.

You seem to have a knack for finding these interesting old structures. I like the textures in this image and feel that is its strength. I also like the sepia treatment - you night even add a border that nakes it look like an old snapshot. Ihave two suggestions. One is to do some selective dodge and burn. In my opinion that would give the image more depth. My other suggestion is to remoe the little could or layer in another sky with a few more clouds - as long as there is not so much going on in the sky that it competes with the real subject.   Posted: 09/16/2021 15:02:32

Old buildings seem to be this month's theme, and this is another interesting example and the fence provides a good lead in line to it. I find the barn a little central to the image and I might crop the right hand side. I agree with Sharon and Lauren regarding the cloud.   Posted: 09/17/2021 02:17:14

A very unique barn and I like it!! I agree with that this is a little dark but I do like the sepia tones. Think Sharon's idea of border to make it look like an old photo would be good. Nicely done!
