About the Image(s)

This image started with the background, which I created by using a photo of a piece of slate (Original 1). First, I applied a horizontal motion blur. The blue and orange areas seemed to suggest a sky palette, and the dark spots became something resembling a horizon and a road. The houses (Original 2) were selected with the Quick Selection tool, refined edges, and dragged onto the background at the horizon line. I reduced the saturation considerably and added some "age" to them. The trees were done in PS, Filter > Stylize > Render > Tree. It's a lot of fun to render trees because there are so many options to doodle with - branch thickness, branch height, number of leaves, size of leaves, light direction, etc. I think my final choice was a cherry tree for the foreground, but then it seemed the houses needed a couple around them too in the distance. The tram was added next (Original 3) using the same procedure as the houses. Final touches included a few light shadows, the birds in the trees, the tire swing, and the Brush-painted clouds. Now it was just a matter of using Distressed FX app on the ipad to add texture, the birds flying away from the tree, and a vignette.

Wow, that is so whimsical. Well done you.

I've never heard of rendering a tree in PS. I'm going to have a go now. (Do, dee, do, do, play, play, play). OMG!!!! You have made my day. Thank you so much.   Posted: 05/01/2021 20:52:56

Thanks Fran. So glad you tried rendering a tree and liked doing it! I'll hope to see a rendered tree in one of your future images! :-)   Posted: 05/05/2021 16:49:44

This image is so imaginative and fun! I just love it. You have also pointed me in the direction of Distressed FX which I can't wait to try.

Thanks so much Gwen. I hope you like DistressedFX. They recently upgraded it and I guess there are extra enhancements you can purchase, but I haven't looked into that yet. I did buy a couple of additional filter packs previously, but they were minimal cost. The new add-ons are pricier.   Posted: 05/05/2021 16:54:21

This is just sooooo good. The effects you've used and the way they're so expertly blended have produced another masterpiece.
I particularly like the motion blur and the trees and the aged effect you've given the houses. The birds and tram are extra bonuses.
Thanks for giving us another image to make me smile!   Posted: 05/06/2021 16:34:51
