Oxbow Bend by Randy Dykstra

June 2021 - Oxbow Bend

About the Image(s)

Oxbow bend, one of the iconic American landscape scenes. I've actually doing a series of photos of this location that's now 5 years running. I call it the "Moods of Oxbow." This one I like because of the clouds, reflections and there are two trumpeter swans who are just taking off in the right hand side.

Well this one works, perfect tranquility. You have set the scene just right with the lead of the front bank's leading the far bank and that wonderful range in the background. The weather has been so kind to you and the light is perfect. But what makes it is those two birds landing on the right, just sets how wild this is. Wonderful shot that I would have loved to have taken.   Posted: 06/10/2021 06:13:17

This is nice landscape. I can feel relax and cool by looking this image. You made combination of foreground, background and all reflection become perfect. The only remark, I found either your camera sensor dirt or your lens create few dirt spot that should be stamped.   Posted: 06/11/2021 03:41:29

That's odd, as on the original only one shows up with light rooms visualize spots. Anything else is part of the clouds.   Posted: 06/11/2021 08:53:00

That's an absolutely beautiful photograph. Such a tranquil and gorgeous scene! The reflections of the mountains in the water, the beautiful colors, and the leading lines of the trees and plants all add nicely to the composition. My only suggestion would be that the horizon might not be straight. It seems to slant downward toward the right, although I'm not exactly sure of that.   Posted: 06/11/2021 22:56:46

Nope, that's the shape of the "bend"   Posted: 06/12/2021 14:18:21

It is a great image. Excellent blending of tones. Re: the spots: Yep, I have the same problem with my D800e. I've cleaned the sensor 6 times at home and the spots are still there. I tested with different lenses. My problem is in the sensor. Going to have to send my camera into Nikon for service.   Posted: 06/11/2021 23:29:39
