About the Image(s)

Title: Two Boats in Iceland

I shot this handheld with a Nikon D7200, f/11, 1/400 sec., ISO-400. In Photoshop, I straightened the horizon and cropped the original photograph a bit, increased saturation, vibrance, and contrast and added a curves adjustment layer.

I love walking around the coast looking for these type of shots, but they are becoming very far and between in the UK now owing to tourism. You have seen and captured a nice scene, the boats sit well in the image and the surroundings are pleasant. Looking at the image and the histogram, the image is lacking in the dark tones and could do with a touch of tweaking in curve's or levels to give it a touch more depth and the highlights could be pulled back just a smidgen.
If I was taking this I would have tried to get the large boats mask to fall in the gap between the island and mainland so it did not break land but that is just my taste. But pleasing image to view.   Posted: 06/10/2021 06:06:28

Nice image. There is a bit of a juxtaposition between the older larger boat and newer smaller boat. Young and old? Unique colors also contribute. When I look at it I wonder how the composition might change by walking a few steps to the left to get some separation of the large boat and middle island, but still line up all the rest of water and land. I also tried flipping it horizontally, where I like the boats better (other than the lettering), however I did not like the way the projecting bits of land worked in that version.   Posted: 06/10/2021 09:42:36

This is good image. Sharp focus and detail texture in foreground. Nice tone in background.   Posted: 06/11/2021 03:29:31

I like the shot. Good blending of colors and tones. I would like to move the island back a few yards so there would be separation between the larger boat and the island. But, sometimes we take what we can get. If you have the opportunity to shoot this again, maybe put the camera about knee level and see what happens. Your shot makes me want to go there.   Posted: 06/11/2021 23:25:03
