June 2022 - Muir Woods looking up

About the Image(s)

I said there would be more trees appearing from our trip to Muir Woods. This was taken three times with 3 different exposures and then using Photomatix was merged as an HDR and finally converted to mono. Photomatix gives alternatives to what the final image looks like, from grunge to barely altered, and this was one of the least ‘mucked around with’. I also used Nik for the conversion, using ‘wet rocks’ because I like the definition provided and this helps to put back some of the depth and tonal quality which HDR loses in an image. I like this version but I don’t know if anyone else will.

I like it. Particularly the (visual) pathway at center that leads into the forest grove. All the actual and implied lines seem to focus one's eye there.... And, one of the trees isn't a Redwood..... provides a nice diagonal to avoid the typical tree photo composition.

Yes, I liked the fallen tree partly because it went against the lines of the other trees.   Posted: 06/10/2022 04:05:57

I like the image and composition, looks like a witch standing in the middle at the back :)   Posted: 06/09/2022 18:34:51

I can't see the witch but I'll keep looking.   Posted: 06/10/2022 04:06:33

I too like the diagonal tree which appears to be an oak. The upward movement of the image forces the eye to relocate to the focal point and the tonal rage is really nice. A good capture! And yes I see the little witch too. It's the small pointed tree stump (?) a little left of center at the base of the trees.   Posted: 06/12/2022 06:36:10

An interesting image. The falling tree really adds to it. I don't know about a witch, but I see a scare crow at the lower back area.   Posted: 06/13/2022 15:06:59

It's hard to get a forested shot like this that has compositional coherence, but this is successful, especially that diagonal tree.
You know me about converging verticals. I really like the converging tree lines.
I see the little witch, and can't look away now. I think it's a cloaked death figure facing away from us.   Posted: 06/17/2022 13:45:20

Thanks Stephen. I'm still hunting for the witch.   Posted: 06/17/2022 14:38:42

This is what I see as a figure.   Posted: 06/19/2022 09:19:34

OK, I was looking for something bigger! It still just looks like a tree stump to me!   Posted: 06/19/2022 09:23:18

Yes, it IS a tree stump. We just all see it as an ominous little creature :)   Posted: 06/23/2022 13:22:35
