About the Image(s)

Two weeks ago we went to the Stick Marsh to photograph birds. But instead of birds, I found other things to photograph such as this air plant. Air plants are all over Florida, but for some reason, this big guy caught my eye.

Post processing I cropped, rotated counterclockwise, then went into NIK Silver effects Pro and used a high key filter. I cleaned up a couple of unsightly spots and here it is. Let me know what you think.

As I said in my email to you, I took pictures of sky plants when we visited Florida and I've tried them in competitions, but they get rejected every time. However, taking the edge of the tree and putting the plant against the sky might be the answer. I really like the texture which has come out on the leaves. However, there is one leaf which goes up and out of the frame which I would clone out altogether. Also I don't quite know why there is a sort of grey vignette around the edges. Was it where you were trying to eliminate the distractions in the sky and the horizon. I think you need to remove the grey pattern and leave the background as an offwhite all-over blank area.   Posted: 05/05/2022 05:09:23

When I applied the filter, the background naturally greyed out. I did try to eliminate the grey area but it didn't work very well. Odd the air plants were always rejected - they have some very interesting shapes.   Posted: 05/07/2022 19:48:55

When you get up close to a subject like this, and view it from a different angle, one sees new things. You make the viewer think about the shapes, and about the relationships of living things one to another.   Posted: 05/07/2022 17:41:53

Yes it has made it an abstract spider like shape rather than a plant growing on a tree. So very interesting.   Posted: 05/08/2022 10:17:45

It is an interesting image, and I like the detail in the plant. It does have a look like a spider. The grey on the right and left sides bother me, and I used the stamp tool to get rid of it. A quick job, but I think that you get the idea.   Posted: 05/09/2022 15:44:02

"Strange things in the night" .... and sometimes in the day. A new one for me.
Tom's modification looks like it's a good one.
