Egg and Flower by Ed Ries

October 2021 - Egg and Flower

About the Image(s)

My submission for this month is another still life, Egg and Flower. There is a philosophic connection between the two subjects but that may not be of interest to the group.
Technical: canon 5Ds, 24-70 mm lens at 45mm, ISO 200, single strobe with fill. Converted with Nik after some CEP pro contrast adjustments. Textured background added. Final sharpened with high pass filter. 2 Pixel stroke added.

Excellent still life Ed though I miss the philosophic connection. Exposure is exactly where it should be with detail in both the dark and light areas. This would make an excellent print either as a straight B&W or as a split tone.   Posted: 10/06/2021 11:17:45

Thank you, Michael. I saw a potential connection after making the image. An egg represents potential life. The blooming flower is realized life. From the potential comes the realization. Anyway, just a thought.   Posted: 10/06/2021 12:54:19

Ed - a really good still life, excellent composition, lighting and processing, My only gripe is the very bright, almost burnt out area on the egg - I think the image would benefit from reducing the brightness here - to the same tonality as the flower head.   Posted: 10/07/2021 04:43:03

Ed, very well done image. I as well agree the only minor issue would be the burnt-out area on the egg.   Posted: 10/08/2021 12:52:21
