About the Image(s)

The image was taken in northern Israel two weeks ago. It was taken with a Sony a7riv camera and 100-400mm lens set at 315mm , f11, and 500 iso. Initially I was trying to get a group of the thistles as well as the barb wire fence. I wasn't happy with the image, and decided to see if 61 MP, is a good as they say it is! After cropping, and making the basic adjustments in light room, I converted it to B/W. The sharpness, and detail in seeds, if found impressive. I left the gossamer from the spider in place.
I must say as a long term Nikon supporter, I am very impressed with Sony.

Paul - impressive quality and detail from the Sony combination. My only gripe is the sharpening halos.   Posted: 09/10/2021 15:19:36

Love the detail. my eye is not as good as Peter's so I am not distracted by sharpening halos. I see rim lighting. However I am learning.   Posted: 09/11/2021 16:49:20

Hi Ed, I tend to agree with you. I don't believe that there are sharpening halos, rather backlighting. If you enlarge the image you will see small thorns and subtle details in that space.   Posted: 09/12/2021 10:03:28

Welcome to the world of Sony!
A super spiky plant just made for mono.
I have been plagued by halos for a while and it they may have contributed to a run of poor exhibition results.
However you may be right about the cause here being from the backlighting.
It does not soil the image for me. I like the shot.
