Eggs...Bowl by Ella Schreiber, QPSA, APSA

June 2021 - Eggs...Bowl

About the Image(s)

After seeing one of Sara Lamb’s paintings, I was inspired to create this composition for still life. Recently, took a workshop, given by the master of light, Harold Ross, and this image was the outcome.
How I did it: Used: FF-camera, 70-200 lens, F 18, ISO L, light painted. My camera was tethered and many steps were required, from composition, to set alignment, to accurate focus, etc. I learned a lot and highly recommend his workshops. Stay tuned for more still-life images.

Technically and esthetically superb Ella. My attempts a still life photography pales in comparison to yours. Keep up the excellent work.   Posted: 06/13/2021 17:47:11

El;la - the lighting on the eggs is absolutely divine - so well controlled - great job! However I do find that the bright area of the cloth(?)draws my eye away from the main elements of the image and reducing the brightness in this area would be beneficial IMO.   Posted: 06/14/2021 05:26:29

Hello Ella. beautiful still life. I love the lighting on the eggs as well as the composition. I like the cloth. A nice contrast to the bowl and additional texture. Was the Harold Ross workshop on-line or in person?   Posted: 06/15/2021 11:01:24

Ella, I agree with the comments made so far. The image has almost an HDR effect. I would like to hear more about the technical aspects of your photo.

Ella, this is a wonderful still life image.

Everything about the image is, to me, just perfect.

However, Peter is correct about that highlight but I am sure you can sort that out.....   Posted: 06/16/2021 08:02:45

Hi Ella
Lost for words, love the gradation of light back to front, the textures on the table cloth bowl and background, contrasting with the silky smoothness of the egg shells if that is not enough the lighting lifts it to another level.
Its a masterclass in lighting and still life.   Posted: 06/17/2021 13:44:43
