May 2021 - Grass Roots America

About the Image(s)

Again I have reached back into my files to select an image for May. Technical: 4x5 field view camera, 300 mm lens, 4x5 tri-x with normal processing. I cropped the final image to a rectangular format to eliminate what I thought was excessive sky. Sharpened with a high pass filter and then a stroke was added.

Ed - you have captured the isolation of this timber clad church very well and it typifies your title. Well processed with a good tonal range and cropped nicely from 4x5. Detail in the sky is great and the post processing here has not been overdone. Positioning the church just off centre works well and the absence of any hills in the background emphasizes remoteness of the location.   Posted: 05/10/2021 06:32:48

Hi Ed: My first thought was .. where is the horse and buggy? Your image is nicely processed and conveys wide open spaces. Looking closely, my eye kept going to the dark area just left of the church.. it appears as a vehicle with a headlight? If so, it could easily be cloned out if desired.   Posted: 05/10/2021 12:36:50

Super image.
I like the sky in particular which is effective but does not draw attention away from the church.
Placing the church slightly off centre works very well.   Posted: 05/17/2021 02:52:26

Very well done Ed. Well exposed and composition reinforces the aspect of large open spaces. Superb image.   Posted: 05/18/2021 14:14:06

A very well done image Ed. You certainly have handled it very well in post. There are two faint vertical lines to the right of the church that you may want to clone out.   Posted: 05/18/2021 15:00:11

Those are part of the church but are distracting as is the small dark area that Ella mentioned, not a car but still distracting. Thanks.   Posted: 05/18/2021 19:08:56
