Albion Waterfalls by Paul Roth

May 2021 - Albion Waterfalls

About the Image(s)

The image of Albion Waterfalls was taken with a Sony a7riv and 100-400mm lens at f10, 1 second exposure, using a 3D and polarizing filters. It was opened in Lightroom, basic adjustments were made. I did spent some time fine tuning clarity and haze to enhance the 'blur effect'of the water, from the filters. I was then converted to b/w in Lightroom, with a slight vignette.

Paul - A fine image of the waterfall in which your chosen shutter speed is spot on and the tonal range great. The diagonal flow of the waterfall works well and I wonder if it was possible to move your shooting position to the left a little to avoid the trees overlapping the shadow area on the left of the falls. There is a highlight on a dead tree branch at the base of the image which I find a little distracting.   Posted: 05/10/2021 06:42:05

Hi Paul: Another beautiful waterfall! I like your composition very much and think the shutter speed you selected is perfect for this image. The vignette really focuses attention on your subject - the waterfall. Nicely done!   Posted: 05/10/2021 12:39:39

Nice job in maintaining the detail in the water while allowing the right amount of motion. Nice composition with the diagonal flow of the fall. The trees on the left are a little distracting for me; however, you may not have been able shift your position. The vignetting keeps one focused on the fall.   Posted: 05/15/2021 12:03:19

Paul, an excellent rendition of a waterfall.
Waterfalls are a good subject for mono but are not always shown as well as you have done here.
The highlight mentioned by Peter is a bit of a distraction but is easily sorted out.   Posted: 05/17/2021 02:55:03

Very well done Paul. Exposure is spot on as is the composition.   Posted: 05/18/2021 14:17:18
