January 2025 - Like a spiral in a circle

About the Image(s)

May I start by wishing all my friends in Group 31 a very happy, creative and peaceful New year
Its been back to the archives again for me, this image was captured in October 2023 at the annual Liverpool light trail which runs for all the month of October each year.
Around 12 light installations are situated around the Liverpool river front area created by artists from around the world,I cannot remember the name of this installation but it was directly behind the Royal Liver building. It was a series of illuminated hoops which changed colours as the went through the most stunning series of patterns, something a little different from me the Groups thoughts as always would be appreciated.

How i did it

Canon EOS 5D Mk III lens Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art 016 focal length 85mm, f 2.8 1/200s ISO 2000 .
Basic adjustments to RAW file adjusted in CS6 sharpened using a high pass filter highlights dropped shadows and contrast brought down, cropped all round various small background lights cloned out as were the support stand and wiring. 2px border added

Happy New Year!
I really like this because it is such a graphic design. I like the starkness of the white against the black and find I can't take my eyes off both although I keep coming back to the overlapping central point.   Posted: 01/06/2025 10:27:28

Many thanks Diana I have been sat on this for a while the colour image did not quite have the impact I hoped for for but when I changed it to a mono image it really pinged.   Posted: 01/11/2025 14:35:33

Hi Ian: A very clever and creative image which works well for B/W. At first glance I thought it looked like binoculars but quickly realized that it was one of your creative ideas. The subject is nicely placed in the image and technically well done.   Posted: 01/09/2025 12:59:44

Ian - A stark and graphic image, very creative and rather abstract at the same time and showing great depth. The angle from which you have captured the image is spot on and the processing very well done.   Posted: 01/11/2025 10:27:40

Hi Ian,

Great abstract! So simple yet mesmerizing as the circles converge towards a vanishing point. At first, I thought it was a macro shot of two springs and was surprised to read it was lights. Very creative!   Posted: 01/11/2025 13:47:08
