Vermont Farmer's Junk Drawer by Jon Joyce

January 2022 - Vermont Farmer's Junk Drawer

About the Image(s)

I liked the looks of this old building and the contents within it. I wondered why it all hadn't been stolen insomuch as the shed was wide open. Upon closer examination, however, I decided that the farmer really didn't have much to worry about. There were no pieces in this shed that appeared to be related to any other piece ” they were just items that were thrown back in the corner as they were worn out ” the farmer probably thinking, “I may have a use for that sometime.” It reminded me so much of the junk drawer in my own desk which also contains a large volume of unrelated items that have accumulated over the years.

The image was captured with a Sony RX 100 11.2 mm, F/4 at 1/800

One man's junk is another man's treasure, to paraphrase. Interesting subject. Did you try some close ups of the junk as well? Since the subject is the junk as well as the shed, I would like to see the shadows opened up so we could see in side the shed better. I also would crop a little to bring us closer to the items in the shed. My example is included.   Posted: 01/03/2022 14:37:10

Nice shot, I wish the road on the left would not be cut off, It will be much better with a road.   Posted: 01/03/2022 16:10:19

Several details to reduce distractions would be to reduce the sky to just above the roof top, add more road to the bottom and to the left side, remove the black object at the edge of the road, remove the telephone pole and all the fence posts. Agree with earlier comments.   Posted: 01/04/2022 12:21:52

A nice sharp memory shot For a fine arts image it is too busy If you have closeups of the junk I would like to see them as Dorinda also said

I like the shot too. imo this would benefit from doing an HDR kind of layering. Like Dorinda, I spend up the shadows in the back of the barn. I trimmed a little of the left side and did a little yard work ;-)   Posted: 01/11/2022 20:22:42

Interesting shot. I read everyone else's comments. I agree it would be nice to either add some dirt road, or crop in a little more on the left, so the round part of the grass doesn't hit the edge of the image. I also like the idea of brightening up the colors. I agree an HDR feel may work well.   Posted: 01/13/2022 14:09:58
