The Kitchen Sink by Jessica Manelis

October 2021 - The Kitchen Sink

About the Image(s)

I was checking out this artist co-op opportunity and in the back area, they had a "pickers" paradise. This sink was up against the wall and I just loved the knobs and rust that was forming. In the original I did capture the back of the sink, but I also captured the corner of a bright orange object. It seemed easier to just crop it out. Only did a little sharpening in post processing.

What a cool old sink. I can see it being filled half up with flat river stones and turned into bird bath. Thanks for sharing.   Posted: 10/08/2021 16:59:48

Very interesting sink Sharp capture However I think a crop with just the left side of the bowl and one spigot would be even more powerful I used Viveza 2 to open up the dark stain the drain and the spigot   Posted: 10/09/2021 01:36:17

Doesn't this image jolt a recollection from somewhere in your suppressed past? Very impressive photo, Jessica. I like Judy's suggested crop - there is no information being eliminated, really. Good alertness to this one.   Posted: 10/10/2021 16:48:44

Certainly a subject worth sinking one's effort into.   Posted: 10/10/2021 17:36:51

I love this type of image although my first reaction was "yuk"!!! I think there are a variety of possible images here. Similar to Judy's suggestion, I would crop, leaving the upper left hand corner (faucet, drain and top half of actual sink). Thanks for sharing this one!

This is quite interesting, and an original effort. Well done.
I note that one member of your group, Jon, commented that this awakens memories from one's suppressed past. He is so right on--I feel like dangerous suggestions are all over this image. I sense references to childhood fears, horror films, violence, and personal hygiene neglected.   Posted: 10/17/2021 18:26:11

Happy Friday, Jessica! Frankly, the featured work is a wonderful artistic capture where Light & Shadow play host in providing depth and character to the scene.

Judy's alternative processing erases the depth and makes the composition flat: the very attributes of light & shadow are lost. The tighter crop is a viable option, but Judy's a bit too tight....

Great work and accomplished with minimum post-production...Bravo!
