Swallowtail by Ron Spencer

About the Image(s)

I'm not much for bugs and macros, but this swallowtail on an agapanthus blossom caught my eye because of the colors. The best camera available at the time was my phone camera. I managed to get pretty close before it fluttered away. 1/100 sec, f/2.8, ISO 64, 9mm. Cropped and further edited in LR.

Well done, Ron - not only because you used your phone, but for a great picture. Nice and sharp, nice exposure and colours. From a composition point of view, I think it could be improved by adding a bit more canvass, top and bottom - but not a big deal.   Posted: 05/13/2023 19:55:06

Really nice sharp image Ron and I think Gunter has summed up the only improvement that the image perhaps deserves a little more space. Really good capture.   Posted: 05/16/2023 11:42:35

A Great grab shot Ron. Quickly composed, and the phone gives great sharpness and color.   Posted: 05/17/2023 14:15:53

Well done! It is wonderful what the phones can do these days. I find I use mine more all the time. The color and sharpness are right on. I agree it could use a bit more space at the top, but for a nature competition, it would not matter.   Posted: 05/19/2023 15:48:07

Very pretty image. I love photographing butterflies. I think this would be better not cropped in so tight. Also I think the flower on the right should be toned down or darkened a bit.   Posted: 05/21/2023 21:35:52
