January 2022 - Death Valley Streams

About the Image(s)

Death Valley is one of my favorite places and the last time we were there was in 2016 and I was looking for different images from what I had taken before. I took this with an Olympus EM5 and 12-50mm lens at 24mm in 35mm format. ISO was 250, aperture f 14 and SS 1/500. Although a desert, there is water around. I wanted to capture a location that showed different plants and texture that the dunes we often see.

A very nice documentary image - you've certainly accomplished your vision of showing another side of the many sides of this great shooting location. I like the contrasting front and background colours and textures. The shrubs/bushes are certainly plentiful, and zi would suggest cropping a bit off the right to bring more focus on the streams. Also, if you were so inclined, you could add a bit more contrast and saturation to the sky, as it appears a little bland,

The streams lead in nicely from the bottom left and draws the eye into a pretty desolate location.Nice contrast between the foreground and the lovely purple/blue of the hill and skies in the background. As Gunter said a good documentary image.   Posted: 01/15/2022 01:29:32

Judy, I have to basically agree with above comments. Gunters' edits add the necessary contrast to the sky and the paths of the steams and just importantly darkens that sandy area mid frame. If I had no other options, I might even try replacing the sky with clouds that would bring the viewers eye into the back of the frame. The streams and current sky just aren't doing that for me.   Posted: 01/15/2022 17:06:26

I like this image. I do think it needs to be cropped and the sky maybe needs to be replaced. I really like your placement of the dried up streams. Good job.   Posted: 01/16/2022 14:02:40
