Nice shot. Would you tell us the story of getting the shot, and a little about the bridge--is it to the airport island, perhaps?   Posted: 11/08/2021 23:03:00

Thank you Stephen. This was second time in Hong Kong and decided this time to carry my camera as there are wonderful opportunities for night photography. This shot was taken from Park Island in the evening as we were visiting friends. The Tsing Ma Bridge connects Tsing Yi to Park Island (Ma Wan - Hence the name Tsing Ma) and Lantau Island where the International airport is located. The bridge is quite impressive, 135' wide with 6 lanes on top and two rails tracks on the lower level.

We spend one night walking around with Tripod / timer & camera to capture various areas of HK. Waiting on border to re-open so we can visit my wife's family again:-)

The photo was taken with Canon 5D SR / 16 mm using CamRanger and a ipad to run the remote control app.   Posted: 11/08/2021 23:47:56

Hi Stephen, You have captured a somewhat dream like quality in the water. Just enough light left in the sky and the bridge disappearing into the distance a super shot. The only thing I find a little distracting is the lit up building on the right hand edgeand I amnot sure whether the little piece of land in the right hand corner adds anything. But my documentary roots say it was there so show it.   Posted: 11/09/2021 03:42:21

Hi Tim,

I re-cropped the image to a 16:9 format to give it a panoramic feel, you are right about the small portion of the beach and could use content aware to replace with water. I did not notice it at first, but you are right I probably should dim the light on the small structure on the right.   Posted: 11/09/2021 14:15:43

Very pretty image. The light on the water is beautiful.   Posted: 11/10/2021 21:53:21

Very nice image Stephan. I Love the star filter effects from the bridges and street lights and the violet colors on the bridge. The blue hour lighting the mountains in the distance works well also. Hopefully we'll see other photos in the future.   Posted: 11/12/2021 10:06:53

Thank you Bob! I rarely carry photo equipment when we travel (Iphone is just great:-). But I made it a point this time around as I know I missed great opportunities for night photography the first time I was in Hong Kong. We spend a few evenings taking photos this time around, the city is just amazing at night!   Posted: 11/12/2021 18:34:31

A great nighttime scene - lots to see and enjoy. The composition is strong, with the lead in to the left side of the bridge (for me that's the focal point). Like the white cloud in the background, giving the image additional depth. The colours are nicely handled, although the sudden change in lighting on the left side looks a bit odd. Technically well shot - sharp and well exposed. As a personal preference, I would prefer the image flipped horizontally, to have my eyes following the leading line from left to right.

Being late to make comments makes for a challenge. It is a beautiful night shot and the water is well done. I agree about the lower right corner, but may have missed it if someone else hadn't commented on it! I was in HK many years ago, but was shooting slides then and that presented more of a challenge and I was on a tour. Our PSA Chapter's chairman is from Hong Kong and has many contacts there.   Posted: 11/28/2021 15:58:09
