Seeing Poppy Multiples by Bob Legg

July 2021 - Seeing Poppy Multiples

About the Image(s)

I came across some poppies in a field and I had been working on some entries using multiple exposure. My Nikon was setup to shoot 10 exp and to do overlays with average metering in making this final .jpg. It expands your seeing abilities. I used my 28-300 lens, f 9.0 and 1/200 sec, ISO 400. I did all 10 images in rapid succession.

A beautiful image that I would hang on my wall. It creates a happy mood for me, and it gives me much to see. I've always enjoyed pictures of poppies, and your method helps me with the issue of the slightest breeze that makes them move. The poppies are nicely spaced and the simple 2 colour scene makes it 'easy' to look at.
I'm generally a bit nitpicky - so forgive me - but I would get rid of the blue flowers?, to maintain the simplicity.   Posted: 07/09/2021 09:18:18

Nope. I LIKE the blue flowers. :>)

I think the whole project is a wonderful idea. I would maybe try not so many exposures next time, maybe 4 or five. I think that might preserve the flower image just a bit more.   Posted: 07/09/2021 15:50:03

Thank you Gunter and Karen for your positive thoughts. Yes, it is an excellent solution for working with flowers in windy conditions and/or no tripod. Gunter, I like the small areas of blue also, but I've reduced the saturation of the blues to make the image more appealing.   Posted: 07/10/2021 09:10:50

I really like this Impressionistic image Bob.
The muted colours also really add to the image and like Gunter I would happily hang it on my wall.   Posted: 07/13/2021 10:00:00

I like the muted colors - shades of Claude Monet's "Water Lilies". I'm for keeping the blues.   Posted: 07/15/2021 13:27:29

At first glance, I thought the poppies were goldfish:-). Flowers are a challenge in wind and you found a good way around that. The colors are nice and I agree it is like a Monet.   Posted: 07/15/2021 20:22:51
