Blue Moon over Kenosha by Kathy Brand

September 2023 - Blue Moon over Kenosha

About the Image(s)

This is the fourth time, I tried to get a photo of the moon coming up over Lake Michigan and behind the Lighthouse. One of the club members is good with the PhotoPills app and figured out where we should be and at what time it would happen. The first three times, the sky was cloudy and when the clouds cleared, the moon was way up in the sky. This time, there was just minimum clouds and I got a photo of the event. Tech Info: 1/60 second on a tripod, f/10, 150mm, ISO 500. I also used the denoise function in LR on it.

Lucky with the moon for sure! If you could find a way to reduce the importance of the buildings (saturation maybe), and increase the brightness and saturation of just the moon, the emphasis might switch from the buildings to the beautiful huge moon. I have the same issue with clouds along the horizon when shooting nighttime images here in Tennessee.   Posted: 09/10/2023 04:15:02

Kathy, I like what you have here. I think the deep red lighthouse gives more impact to the fading moon behind it. I might consider cropping it so just he lighthouse and the moon are featured. The secondary building keeps my eye moving towards it and away from the moon and lighthouse - just my two cents.   Posted: 09/10/2023 06:11:52

Great capture of the moon behind the lighthouse.
I do agree with Joe with the cropping and also removing the bird in flight, as the moon and lighthouse are the main subjects in this photo. I do like that you caught the grasses in the foreground moving with the wind.   Posted: 09/14/2023 09:48:51
