I hadn't realized until I found the seeds floating around the yard that there is a milkweed plant growing in a flowerbed. I must have missed it's bloom. At any rate, the intention was to capture the heavy dew drops on this one or two seeds that I found in the grass.
Camera Info: shot 8/18/2023, F5.6, 1/500th sec., ISO 125, spot metering, -0.5 EC, at 105mm focal length.
Editing: first into CR, the PS. crop, adjust levels a little, desaturate (I wanted to see what a b&w would look like because I didn't like the background), then invert, and oops, I can now see the dew drops better, so I continued to remove a lot of the background, using the brush tool and the levels tool. Not perfect, but a start. At some point in the process, I sent it through the NIC Collection sharpener. I have discovered from working with wet-webs that this sharpener works well for tiny water drops. Resize and save.
My interpretation from this attempt is that I could be more careful with having extra items in the photo, such as the grass that I was unable to completely remove. Water droplets (dew in this case) are delicate and I hesitated to move the tiny wings on this seed. I tried moving one and lost the seed. At any rate, this was an experiment, and I discovered what inverting would look like with these types of images.

Wanda, a most interesting rendition of the original. I would NEVER have thought about going in this direction! I'd be happy with this final result.   Posted: 09/10/2023 11:29:36

Thanks Joe, it was somewhat of an accident that I ended up discovering this result!

Thank you Deb. I will work toward shooting a similar image this year, but adjusting for less of a background disruption.   Posted: 09/15/2023 00:40:58

I think the high key is wonderful. It focuses on the subject. The details are so sharp.   Posted: 09/19/2023 05:41:18

Thank you, Deborah. I frequently forget about developing an image for high key. Thanks for the reminder.   Posted: 09/19/2023 08:53:17
