Starved Rock by Steve Jacobs

June 2022 - Starved Rock

About the Image(s)

This was shot in May at Starved Rock State Park in Northern Illinois on a overcast rainy day. I don’t do a lot of HDR , but thought this was a good day to work on that. This is a 7 image HDR.

Hope you enjoy.

Tech Stuff:
Camera: Nikon D850

It is such a peaceful scene. I really like the two waterfalls. Well done.   Posted: 06/12/2022 13:11:06

I like the eye movement through the image, and the slow water. Bet you could have gotten this with three bracketed images? Great DOF.   Posted: 06/19/2022 11:07:33

In my humble opinion, this is what HDR bracketing was intended for, and not the garish, over-contrasty, over saturated "art" that it became known for. I have encountered people who hated HDR because they thought that was all it was, where I, on the other hand, saw a super zone system for landscape photos. As for how many frames to include, I don't think 7 is too many, it just gives the possibility of that much more range to midtones.

Nice photo.   Posted: 06/19/2022 12:13:52

A great job processing this with HDR. My eye goes to the small white waterfall on the left, then to the log exiting on the right and star produced by the tiny water flowing. I would try cropping off some of the left side. Then the main focus would be the triangle of the log, branch and water in a star shape.   Posted: 06/25/2022 13:04:10

Great image and well processed. My eye was drawn to the waterfall on the right but then moved around to the left waterfall taking in the details of the rocks on the back. Well done.   Posted: 06/26/2022 20:24:45
