Truck in Field by Renee Schaefer

June 2022 - Truck in Field

About the Image(s)

While in the Palouse this past May, we came across this old rusted out truck in a field of dandelions. I shot it with my Sony A6300. It was shot in aperture priority at F5 with a 52mm equivalent focal length in 35mm terms. I wish I had gotten down lower to make the top of the truck pop out, but I may be able to do that with the help of photoshop. I like that the writing on the truck is yellow and so are the dandelions and daffodils.

Old trucks make good subjects. I like the direction of the shot. And i like that the roof is all below the horizon, getting lower may have pushed it above.
If you want to make the truck stand out try increasing contrast and saturation on just the truck.   Posted: 06/05/2022 04:29:47

I agree with Danny. Another trick with rusty trucks is to shoot them in HDR -it will bring out the colors and textures of rust. Welcome to the Palouse!   Posted: 06/05/2022 15:57:08

I think the truck stands out nicely against the green grass and flowers. If the roof of the car was higher, it might blend in with the sky. I do find the composition a little static, seems to be in the center of the frame.   Posted: 06/17/2022 11:49:16

Definitely need to work on bringing out the rust in the old truck. Many ways that can be done. Like the yellow flowers and the yellow on the truck. Great red front wheel.
Most old cars/trucks are in a junk yard surrounded by others. I love that this was an isolated truck.
The sky seems perfect in matching the blue in the truck.
fun capture.   Posted: 06/17/2022 12:47:20

A very good image of an old truck. I particularly like the colors: those of the truck matching the sky and the yellow on and around the truck.   Posted: 06/17/2022 19:47:01

I like the abandoned truck in the field, I can see that it would make a wonderfull restoration or a 'rat' project.I like the fact that you do not break the horizon with the roof, and the shape of the food matches that of thill behind it. I feel that the truck needs to stand out more from the background a there is little modelling coming from the high fairly flat lighting. I would experiment on increasing the contrast, saturation and sharpening on selected areas of the truck.   Posted: 06/20/2022 02:03:15
