Keukenhof Day 3 by Lauren Heerschap

May 2022 - Keukenhof Day 3

About the Image(s)

This is a fun shot for May. I was in the Keukenhof Gardens, Netherlands, with 72 acres of tulip fields and greenhouses. But I spent four days there a few years ago, and had not enough time for the orchid greenhouse. I found this Orchid Lady covered in flowers in display at the back of the greenhouse. ISO 2000, 29mm, F9, 1/60 sec. On a tripod. I loved her hair too, since I knit. In Lightroom I toned down the top fur of the dress for highlights. I also ran this through ON 1, to sharpen and get color dynamics, which made it pop. She is a favorite memory of mine!

As you say this is a fun shot that will bring back many happy memories. In many ways I feel that you have included too much in the image, the strongest part is around the lady's face near the top. o me the flowers etc at the base are just setting the overall scene.   Posted: 05/10/2022 03:11:10

What a fun shot. I do agree with Jon that there is a bit too much in this image. If you could crop it so that the face is the center of attention, I think it would be a much stronger picture.   Posted: 05/13/2022 17:27:39

I'm having trouble deciding on where I should focus. There are so many interesting spots in this photo.
This might be a time to play with layers with different opacity masks. Or brushes in different opacities. These special post processing effects can help direct the eye to the exact location you want us to see.
Another option would be to remove the objects on the wall so the only thing in the top third would be the head.
Such a fun adventure. Thanks for sharing.

Indeed a fun photo and wonderful memory. I like the head, body and arms. There is a lot to look at and cropping would be a challenge because of the round flowers on both sides. You could crop the right right side and clone them away on the left.   Posted: 05/24/2022 13:49:41

I think the others already said it already (and I agree), there is a bit too much to look at, Some selective cropping could result in a number of attractive images.   Posted: 05/24/2022 19:03:10
