Great image. I absolutely love it in B&W. don't know if you could get rid of some of the hot spots in her hair.   Posted: 10/03/2021 17:45:54

You have two great images, I like the color and monochrome. I think the monochrome has too much contrast - it is a very artsy presentation but there is information that is lost in the deep blacks. It also is the reason for blown-out highlights. You don't say how you converted this to B & W, what program did you use? What were your original settings?   Posted: 10/08/2021 16:07:24

I agree with Laura your version is far too contrasty . I have tried reprocessing in Photoshop, on original layer - cloned out hot spots in hair and on forehead, added a curves adjust layer to overall darken image, then a B&W adjust layer with green -200, red -4, yellow -90 then added a final levels adj layer adjusting the bringing in the black and white triangles and small adjustment to the midpoint.   Posted: 10/13/2021 05:21:50

Ah, you caught me. Didn't like the blow out parts on the original so thought I'd do artsy.
It is good to learn how to tone down the hot spots. Thank you for teaching me how to do it.
I agree with Danny and Brad. Somewhere in between but I really like the excitement and euphoria of the artsy one.
I'll just have to play with it...OMGosh FYI, laptop died and won't be here until NOVEMBER not because of chip but rather 4K screen unavailable. Then, back up desktop didn't handle Windows update very well so just got it back from repair.
Hard to do this on my cell phone. But, desktop back and I should be able to play.
Thanks everyone!

I like the mono version. I look at this as art photography, and try to feel the emotion and impact the image conveys.
An to me the details of highlight and blacks are not too important. Looks good, feels good.

Great choice in conveying to black and white. It has kind of an old school feel to it which is very cool. I think the original is a bit to contrasty but I think Jon's version takes away from the artsy old school feel. Maybe somewhere in between.   Posted: 10/14/2021 10:12:05
