Intermission by Jan van Leijenhorst

September 2021 - Intermission

About the Image(s)

Pulled into t a nature preserve and through my windshield saw this scene.
Could not resist taking this hot. Time out from a no doubt busy day. I well deserved “intermission”.

You are fortunate in America to have a number of states with may abandoned townships and homesteads in which make excellent photo subjects. This old saloon has made an excellent subject, with the textures of the wood and decaying paintwork. I like the inclusion of the skulls hanging above the building, and the sign on the right taking us back to the horse and cart era. The signage also says much about the era in which the business was active. To me the only jarring item is the sheet of chipboard blockading the doorway it is so out of period.   Posted: 09/02/2021 12:31:37

Jon, this comment doesn't match the photo posted. It sounds like my photo of the saloon?   Posted: 09/10/2021 11:31:27

Jon commented a bit early and originally there was a saloon photo which I thought was Jan's. Then I received another image from him and that is what you see now.
DID you submit a saloon photo? I am now really confused.   Posted: 09/15/2021 13:07:24

Brad,
I have a photo of a saloon in Scenic, South Dakota. I think I submitted it in the last round. It has skulls on the roof.   Posted: 09/15/2021 14:00:00

A nice simple photo of a nice break.. the image could use a little more contrast and possible straightening.   Posted: 09/15/2021 13:09:17
