About the Image(s)

I know infrared is not the topic of this group, but I just had converted my EM5 Mark 2 Olympus to a 590 filter. I am taking a class to learn processing, but so far learned to convert it to Lightroom and then this is also processed in Silver Efex Pro. Iso 800, f8.0, 1/60 sec. Title: “Between a Rock And a Hard Place”. I already love the details that infrared shows in foliage and texture, this was in the Kubota Japanese Garden in Seattle.

Oh, what fun! Nice textures.
That said and being the Cropping Queen, I'd crop this to a landscape of the top third of this photo. I think there would be enough texture variation to make the fern more dramatic.
I'm not too sure what the lower two thirds of the photo add.
I like the contrasts and textures of the rocks, fern and background. I especially like the rock formations just under the fern.

Thanks, I agree that cropping off the bottom might be a good idea.   Posted: 05/10/2021 11:44:16

To me the image is in the top half of the frame, which would concentrate attention on to the fern. The use of IR has made the fern stand out from the trees behind. (fir trees do not reflect a lot of IR. Your use of the 590 filter has meant that much of the image has been recorded by visible light rather than IR. I usually use a 720 filter which only allows a little visible light through.   Posted: 05/10/2021 09:24:03

Well, my camera is converted to IR with a 590 filter, and I intend to play around with infrared colors - I am learning more from a class. Check out my Fine Arts group where I just posted an infrared peony, group 79.   Posted: 05/10/2021 11:46:18

I like this image, but I think it could have been more powerful if it were cropped midway up the rocks and maybe given some extra breathing room at the top.   Posted: 05/11/2021 09:08:16

OK I cropped it. How does this look?   Posted: 05/11/2021 11:04:16
