About the Image(s)
Taken in Soweto, South Africa. As I had damaged both my Sony A7s in Kenya, I was using a borrowed Sony 6300 with a C-sensor. So my 16-35mm lens produced an image at 29mm. ISO 100. f6.3, 1/100secs
I have visited Soweto before, and this time there were very few adults around as employment seems to have improved. The children that are not in school seem to take care of themselves.

Hi Mervyn, I think that you have captured the child at the gate in a beautiful way - his expressive eyes look directly to the heart of the viewer. You have obviously gained his trust. I like the composition that shows enough of the background to describe his neighborhood, and makes him the center of the image.   Posted: 11/10/2023 14:04:50
There is a nice interaction between the child and the photographer (you). I like that the photo gives us some information on where and how the kid lives. His eyes are very sharp and looking straight into the camera. My only suggestion (too late) would be to have gone a little down to get eye-level with him.   Posted: 11/11/2023 09:30:42
Good suggestion. Getting down is fine. Its getting back up that is the problem!   Posted: 11/11/2023 09:57:12

This is a very compelling image, and the B&W treatment is great. The only minor suggestion would be to apply a slight darkening linear gradient on each side to push the focus in a little more.   Posted: 11/12/2023 14:52:40
I agree with Jose and Bob.. it would have made the image even more compelling! But a very nice image indeed! Well done!   Posted: 11/20/2023 19:20:26
I think this is a wonderful B&W image with good composition and tonality. The child looks a little bit puzzled. I find the back ground interesting, it appears to be a mattress because I can see the springs. Nonetheless it outlines the child perfectly well.   Posted: 11/25/2023 08:07:38
