Sunrays in the Forest by Anges van der Logt, QPSA

May 2023 - Sunrays in the Forest

About the Image(s)

Photo taken on a recent trip to Alishan National Park in Taiwan. It was late afternoon and the light was just beautiful in the forest between the trees. Also because of spring you can see some blossoming trees in the scene. Not sure if the image has enough interest, but I like the mood.

Hi Agnes, this is like walking into a misty fairytale forest, with the soft colors and the absolutely beautiful light. I love the tree trunks in the foreground: they make one feel like walking from the shadows of the trees into a clearing full of light.   Posted: 05/09/2023 14:45:16

I like the mood of this image and its subtle colors. Actually, I don't have anything to contribute on how to improve it in terms of composition or tonality. Being extremely picky, I could suggest that you crop a little from the left, eliminating half of the purple foliage and bringing the trees closer to the border.   Posted: 05/09/2023 18:09:53

The mood makes the picture. My eye is drawn through the trees to the well lit tree in the back.
I think that a crop from the left would provide better balance to the composition.   Posted: 05/10/2023 10:43:23

I think the trees on the left act as a natural blocker/frame, especially since those limbs are very dark, and cropping closer to here might help to draw the viewer. I like the mist and mood.   Posted: 05/10/2023 15:12:50

I agree that this is more of a mood image. I think in competition you might hear "what is the subject" On the other hand, this is the kind of image that I think people would purchase to hang on their wall where many competition images are too much "in your face" I tried cropping in from both the left and right. Doing this, you loose the flowers on the left, but I think you invite your viewer into the "window" between the dark trees.   Posted: 05/12/2023 16:18:41

To me this is a lovely image depicting the sunrays in the wood. The mist and the trees help to create a charming picture. Well done.   Posted: 05/13/2023 05:18:28
