You can see the movement of a boat on the horizon - is this distracting and should I remove it?

Since I do not see a clue that it is blurred boat versus something else, I am okay with it, but would prefer that it was removed as minor distraction. The reflected lights on the left bother me a little in the sense that I would like to see the line longer and more pronounced. I tried doing a rough selection around them, and using transform to extend them as in my example. I think it helps to frame and tie it in a little better.   Posted: 05/07/2021 13:17:36

Hi! Mervyn, I can't find a boat on the horizon so I wouldn't worry about it. The image is sharp as a tack and your eye follows the pier all the way out into the ocean. Very nice image, I like it.   Posted: 05/09/2021 12:27:58

I like the diagonal coming down from the top right; that's what makes the image. It is good that the pier's columns are dark but still visible. The color of the sky is very appealing and complementary to the orange of the lights. I assume that the moving boat is the thin white streak in the center of the picture: it doesn't bother me. What I don't find interesting is the 1/4 left of the picture: there is a light beam, but too dark to make a counterweight to the pier. I would suggest cropping from the left until very close to the building at the end of the pier.   Posted: 05/09/2021 17:49:57

Having read the other comments above, I think the one that I'd go with would be to remove the white object. It makes it appear to me that there is a shoreline there. From my point of view, I wouldn't recommend any other cropping.   Posted: 05/10/2021 10:07:33

Very striking blue hour image. I had to look for what you say is a boat. The line is barely visible, but now that I see it I suppose it would be better without it. About the light reflected on the water, I like it as it is on both sides. I wouldn't crop it. The angle of the pier is prominently placed, and looking from a distance the light streaks on the water seem to offer a nice balance. The colors make the image, but it looks like it could be stunning in BW too.   Posted: 05/10/2021 15:36:33

A very nice blue hour image. First I did not notice the bright streak on the horizon from the boat, but I think that you better remove it, as it adds nothing interesting to the image, and can only distract. I do not mind the reflections left and right of the pier either, I think they add to the composition and balance it, but actually rather find the two bright spots in the FG (near the beach) a bit distracting. If you are able to, I would clone those two areas out of the image, so you get a cleaner FG. But that is my opinion only.   Posted: 05/10/2021 23:13:56

I like the blue color of the sky, complementary to the orange color of the pier. You have created good dimensions with the beach as the foreground, and the bridge as a leading line to the blue sky as the backdrop. I would agree with you to remove the boat.   Posted: 05/11/2021 11:51:41

I took out the white lines of the boat on the horizon and eliminated the bright spots in the foreground. Thank you for your feedback.   Posted: 05/12/2021 15:40:28
