Jimmy's on the Pier by Julie Chapa

January 2022 - Jimmy's on the Pier

About the Image(s)

Early morning capture of the sunrays coming through the pier. Shot at f22 in an attempt to create a sunburst effect but, that didn’t happen. I really like the dramatic shadows that were cast but not thrilled with the blown out sky.

Howdy, Julie, Beautiful sunrise on a beach. Great detail in the structure, colors are strong and clear. You might consider darkening the sky just little, but to me, this sky does not detract from a delightful image. By the way, just where is this scene located?   Posted: 01/16/2022 12:05:44

I do like this image - I think the composition and exposure are both spot on.

The sky is perhaps a little light, but doesn't detract, as there are brighter areas of the image that draw the eye.

I think that there is maybe some keystone distortion (difficult to avoid with a 24mm lens), and to my eye it's a little too sharp - both easily fixed in post.   Posted: 01/17/2022 11:29:32

A wonderful sunrise image with great color and light, and an interesting composition. I think if the sky was darkened a little, the sun shining on the sand would draw the eye. This is important because the sun and shadows on the sand is, to me, the subject. I agree with Brian about the key stoning. I also would remove the vents on the top of the building.   Posted: 01/20/2022 14:00:13

It is very interesting to see a bar on the pier. I like the multiple leading lines converging toward to the building. This image is focus sharp from near to far and lighting is very good. My one suggestion would be to crop in a bit from the right and from bottom to emphasize the main subject, the Jimmy's.   Posted: 01/20/2022 20:00:52
