Gaetan, the butterfly is species I am not familiar with. Is it unique to Mautirus? Thank you for sharing this. I like what you did to darken the background. More could be done with burn tools and other methods that keep the pixel integrity.
One suggestion is to carry an LED flashlight/penlight so that you can illuminate butterflies and bees. Some flashlights have straps to hold the light on your forehead - it shines where you look. You might try to use the dodge tool on the butterfly. Jim   Posted: 01/06/2022 09:01:19

Thanks Jim for your suggestions regarding the LED flash/penlights and the use of dodge and burn tools. In fact, the butterfly is small, the wing span less than one inch.

Gaetan, I used the dodge tool and burn tool and cropped some off the bottom. Does this look better to you? Jim   Posted: 01/07/2022 12:41:15

To Jim and Tam. It's nice to see that a photo can be processed in different ways. Thanks a lot for the suggestions!   Posted: 01/11/2022 07:58:17

I agree with Jim and Tam. I prefer Tam's composition because of the color enhancement of the butterfly, but something would have to be done to the shadow behind the butterfly. You did a great job in making the buterfly really sharp. The pi   Posted: 01/11/2022 11:22:32

Gaetan I agree with Jim, Tam and Albert. The butterfly looks better in Tam's photo.

In your original photo, the butterfly looks fairly well focused. However, a part of the leaf is not much clear. I think it would have been much better had you used a little bigger aperture value such as f/8.   Posted: 01/24/2022 05:32:51

I agree that selective use of the burn and dodge tools would improve this image. I would like to see the butterfly brightened, especially the back wing and dark shadow. On the other hand, I would prefer the leaf not being so bright.   Posted: 01/24/2022 11:50:03
