About the Image(s)

Sony α7Riv, Sony FE 200-600 5.6-6.3 G lens, 1.4x tele-converter, 840mm, 1/1500 seconds, f/9, ISO 800, pistol grip ball-head, monopod.
Though native to the Gulf Coast, four roseate spoonbills arrived in Delaware at the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge this spring. Three survived. These two were inseparable. In Photoshop I used Camera Raw for exposure, highlight, shadows, some texture and clarity “ followed by Topaz DeNoise AI and Topaz Sharpen AI.
I liked the idea of having all three, but there is too much negative space. I decided on two spoonbills and considered including their reflection. Because the water has grasses and plants, I decided to crop close to these spoonbills. Do you think I should have included the reflection? Should I crop very tight on just one spoonbill? You can see all three in the original. Let me know your thoughts.

Hi Jim! I tried to include the reflection and the third spoonbill together with some colour adjustments in Photoshop. The plants in the middle seem a bit distracting. What do you think?   Posted: 11/02/2021 10:36:46

Gaetan, thank your for this. I like the reflection and way that the grasses tie the three spoonbills together. Worth considering further. Thank you for your work. This helps. Jim   Posted: 11/02/2021 16:58:57

I like Gaetan's crop also. By only leaving two birds in the original crop, it seems to me that you are deleting parts of the image that make this an interesting and unique image.   Posted: 11/16/2021 13:46:33

Laura and Gaetan, thank you both for your suggestion of including the three spoonbills. These are all of the surviving spoonbills at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge. I like having all of them. Thanks again   Posted: 11/16/2021 15:02:37
