Evergreen and deciduous by Richard Stauber

May 2022 - Evergreen and deciduous

About the Image(s)

The image was taken last fall using a 24-105 lens (set at 70mm) attached to a Sony A7iii camera. The shutter was set at a 500th sec and iso 800, camera was hand held. The maple leaf was back lit by the afternoon sun and the pine needles cast a shadow on the back. I'm not sure if the needles on the right side of the image add to the picture or should they be cropped?

Hi Richard,
I love the conceptual value of your image. The color is beautiful. The vital part of the leaf, and the shadows are in sharp focus. I believe that is also the story. I would crop the right. The story is told without seeing the cause of the shadows and it may even be distracting. It causes a ping-pong effect.
I see the outline of a cardinal in your leaf too.

Excellent work. I did also clean up a couple of yellow spots in the leaf.   Posted: 05/12/2022 11:46:13

Hi Bob,
Thanks for taking the time to make the revision. I agree, the crop does remove a distraction from the main subject of leaf and shadow.   Posted: 05/12/2022 18:57:58

I agree with Bob on the cropping of the image. Beautiful leaf with its shadows. Well seen.   Posted: 05/21/2022 18:45:51
