Pilot Island Lake Michigan by Dave Edwards

September 2021 - Pilot Island Lake Michigan

About the Image(s)

While late in the day, I took this photo of Pilot Island from a boat. The moving water of Lake Michigan caused the boat to move with the waves. This required a faster shutter speed and many photographs to catch the correct composition (and in focus). A few years ago the island was used for warnings for ships. The island and it's buildings are now closed. Cormorants and other species of birds have taken over, covering the island with guano.

Great capture. The house with windows boarded up, water and birds all create a feeling of being deserted. I may have cropped some of the sky off and a bit off the left side but otherwise well seen and well done.   Posted: 09/09/2021 17:54:09

Very nice image. the plain sky works well with this image. If you do crop in on the left closer to the bush, and some sky keep the aspect ratio.   Posted: 09/13/2021 18:54:37

Interesting image. It's always difficult to photograph from a moving boat, as we found out floating in a rubber boat in the Antarctic!

You could certainly nudge the crop a little on the left hand side, which might put the building a little better placed in the image.   Posted: 09/30/2021 12:34:28
